The past couple of weeks have taken a lot out of me mentally. I don’t think I even have the capacity to try and explain the rollercoaster of emotions our small family has experienced.
BUT, every. single. day. I am still reminded of all the good there is in the world.
This post is inspired by another Substack, Three Good Things, where Emily (the author) creates a daily list of, you guessed it, three good things that she noticed. Almost every day it’s something small, like taking time to see a flower, a visit from a hummingbird, or a special color of blue. She is careful to reiterate the Three Good Things practice is not about ignoring the bad, sad, or terrible things that can and do happen on any given day - it’s about finding the good things that are still present alongside the not-so-good things.
Lately this practice has been keeping me grounded and in my body. It’s exactly what I’ve needed to pair with my usual journalling and meditation.
In honor of the Three Good Things Substack, here is my list of (more than) Three Good Things that I need reminding of more than ever:
a quick 2.5-day trip to Reno to fill my depleted cup with much-needed friend-time and a simultaneous trip with my wife
witnessing and being recipient of generous acts
the most delicious iced latte I’ve had to date - lemon basil latte with house-made lemon whipped cream!!! I’ll be dreaming about this for the rest of forever.
uninterrupted driving hours to be immersed in my audiobook
putting pen to paper for another book idea
a very chilly dip in the ocean
an incredible amount of produce at the markets (hello, summer!)
driving through the eastern sierras for the first time
folks filling the internet with silliness (see videos below) when there is a lot of darkness surrounding us
And that’s all I got for this week folks. Feel free to share your Three (or more, or less) Good Things are that have happened recently in the comments. But I would highly encourage you to check out Emily’s Substack, even just reading the comments is a mood-lifter.
‘Til next time🌈
